If you think that small problems should not be advised and visited until big problems are solved, then our country will not only harness pigs and criminals, but it will also smell like an ashtray.
What is Lebanon really? What is a country? What is patriotism? Lebanon is a land, a country is a land with borders, patriotism is caring about making the land where you and your loved ones live in a place where you are happy to live in, a land that provides you with everything to survive, and in our days, everything to enjoy.
So, while the Mokdads and Hezbollah and Amal run this country (and please, we all know the other political parties stories is over, or at least idle at this point), with their guns and fire arms and power and who dares to sneeze towards them, why can't we at least go to a pub, have a drink and leave without smelling like an ashtray, suffocating, having teary eyes, and problems breathing.
So yes ladies & gentlemen, if you expect our "forces" and our "government" to catch "the bad guys" before we can address the smoke ban law, then let Lebanon become the ashtray of the world, let us be the place where everyone throws their cigarette butts, because that is as much as we deserve.
OR
Be a kind human being, and step outside when you want to smoke, no one is telling you to stop smoking, I am just telling you to move the annoying smoke outside.

lol..i like your articles, fast and easy to read ^^
ReplyDeletei've done a whole paper about Smoking/Smokers in Lebanon when i was in College,
still..i believe that it should be the last thing they should think/worry about right now as a nation, govt, citizens..
i guess i say this because i take my smoking outside :P this is where True Freedom lies ;)
This is a law that has been in the works for a long while now. And technically those who deal with public health are not the same as those who deal with... General security ;)
Delete> There are criminals and armed kidnappers out there, and all the government cares for is giving fines for people who want to smoke?
ReplyDeleteI have a different answer to that :-)
If the latest research is true*, smoking kills 3,500 people in Lebanon every year, it is actually the No.1 killer in Lebanon. That's more deaths than what the McDads and the Tripolis fights combined can claim.
So yes, if the government's priorities is to save more people's lives then preventing smoking is actually more important than dealing with the McDads ;-)
But maybe that's just me, I care more about actually people not dying than clowns making headlines on TV.

P well that is another and even better way to tackle this :) Thanks for the heads up. Miss you :P
DeleteI Totally agree with the article, if we will not start being disciplined with the small things, how can we make a difference with the bigger issues in life and in our country, this is common sense, why people don't want to progress, it is true that change is scary, but why can't we start being like other civilized country, lets start by us, stop smoking, stop littering, driving well, putting the seat belts, why ? why ? why? this should start by each one of us and we can make a difference, Our mentality should change to begin with. Why can't we make Lebanon a better place instead of winning and blaming the other on our troubles, lets start by the easy steps.
ReplyDeleteWhy when we go to another country we say there is rules, and we go by the rules and when we come back we treat our country like dustbin, why? i don't understand this, eno the other countries start the same way but the people agreed on the laws and helped to make it happen.
And yes smoking kills.
100% if you want your country to seem well, why not start with small things. I totally agree. Like buying a house, you can't afford to revamp, but you do the nice cute decoration, the cleaning, the tidying up so it feels like home. We gotta start somewhere. Thanks Maria
