Sadly, while checking twitter today, I saw Bilal Houri tweet something that immediately caught my eye.
It started when Ghassan Rabhany's friend Fouad Khoury was watching a documentary "Toute l'histoire" about the Moroccan country. Originally it was the anthem of a republic called "Batal El Reef", that was founded in 1921 and finished in 1926 after a Spanish - French attack.
The Lebanese anthem has very similar lyrics to the Reef one, and 100% exact same music composition.
Below is a report prepared by Rachelle Karam and broadcasted on the Lebanese TV channel "New TV".

If this turns out to be true, I think we should eliminate everything related to Lebanon (Country name, flag, anthem, ...etc) and start from scratch with a new country... ashraflna!
I agree with Bilal - start from scratch, take the politicians out too while your at it.
ReplyDeleteLOL Nsibai!
ReplyDeleteyasmine and bilal, on a serious note, I always felt that Lebanon needs a Format (computer slang) and a restart
Starting from scratch sounds like a good idea..but jeeze..of all things to steal..the national anthem?? #fail!
ReplyDeleteonly if youtube existed back then!
ReplyDeletedunno if i have to be amused or desperate... hayda loubnan... i love my country bass seriously?
ReplyDeleteI heard Ghassan rahbani on the radio 2 days ago and he said thy HE was watching tout l'histoite and he started to preach us that we need to watch documentaries because he does it all the time with his family. He didn't mention anything about his friend Fouad Khoury. Mmm now I have to see if I can trust him on the anthem issue...
ReplyDeleteAlf, weird... he's saying different things now?
ReplyDeletedidie, someone blogged that it was the moroccan who stole it from the Lebanese. We will have to wait for more investigations I guess
sorry this stupid ghassan trying to make a propaganda out of it ! the rythm was stolen ? maybe but its ours now and it looks great ! why do we have to exagerate everything in this country and sometimes forget the big issues ! lets fight for electricity and leave the anthem alone ! who cares who really made it ... back then so many things used to be interpreted without any copyright protection . Ghasssan shut up !
ReplyDeleteand comparing lebanese creativity to moroccan . . . music wise . . . most probably they stole it from lebanese
ReplyDeleteI agree, plus I think more investigation should be done concerning the matter.
